For Women Only
This page is primarily designed for Apostolic women who have bikes and/or bikers in their lives. But it will be helpful for anyone who wishes to branch out beyond the walls of the church in their outreach efforts for Christ. It will be managed by Diane Beall, a two-up biker with her husband, Fred, in Myrtle Beach, SC.
Bikers come in all colors, shapes and sizes, just like people from all walks of life, just like you and me. The stereotypical biker has the "Easy Rider" look of the 1960s and often weekend bikers try to emulate that image. All types of positions in the work-a-day world are held by bikers ranging from hourly wage earners and business owners to politicians and even preachers. Yes, as you may have heard, many members of Azusa StreetRiders are licensed ministers! Motorcycling has grown tremendously over the past few years, especially among women. Motorcycle clubs exclusively for women and websites promoting such are too numerous to easily count. And, the lost among them is heartbreaking. Remember Jesus' words, "...and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest" (John 4:35). Such is the biking world, "ready to harvest".
I've met women during the UPCI's General Conference that say, "I don't want my husband to ride." Some are afraid of accidents. Some are not comfortable with the "biker" culture. Azusa StreetRiders isn't trying to encourage people to get into biking, only to get those who are already bikers to use their motorcycles as tools to help reach the lost. Isn't this what the "Great Commission" is all about? We don't have the right to discriminate just because of the way someone looks or dresses and that extends to the form of transportation they use...including bikes. Remember Jesus and the Samarian women at the well, "...for Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans" (John 4:9). This didn't stop Jesus, nor should a biker stop you from witnessing to him or her simply because of their "look" or "ride".
After spending over nine years working by my husband's side, I can honestly tell you that most hard core bikers are no different than you and me. Bikers need love
and nurturing, just like all of us. They are not nearly as unapproachable as they appear to be. Most have had very tragic lives and are looking for someone that truly cares. Pictured with me at right is "Big" and his son Harley. "Big" is the President of Hells Angels in Myrtle Beach. His sons Harley and Dorian have attended Sunday school with us on and off for several years and "Big" has studied the Bible with my husband, Fred.
You may think, "I don't ride and I don't have girlfriends that ride." This may be true, but let me assure you that you are surrounded by women that ride; maybe at work, fellow shoppers, or folks dining at the next table in a restaurant. This page is designed to inspire and empower you with the message of Christ so you can reach out to bikers that you come into contact with, both men and women.
On this webpage and those that sub-link, I'll periodically post articles, columns, thoughts and scripture dealing with issues particular to women and will comment on how they impact us in biking and the biking world. Remember, Azuza StreetRiders is a ministry, not a motorcycle club. Our purpose is to reach the lost as Christ commanded. He died for bikers, too!
